September has always been a milestone month in North America, marking the end of summer vacations and the beginning of a new school year. It’s sort of a refresh too, with new fall outfits and the start of new projects, as the crisp fall air moves in. This September will no doubt be a little different from those gone by, but we have to keep moving forward, right? Here’s what’s on our radar.

Kids are going back to school (yay?)

It looks like schools in the western provinces will be going back to classrooms as early as September 2nd. That means that school zone speed limits will be in effect and there will likely be even more chaos than usual during those first few weeks. For some, it’s been 18 months since the morning scramble to get everyone to where they needed to be. We urge caution and patience.

Where there’s smoke…

While we’re experts in getting things where they need to go, we’ve had a few challenges ourselves. The fire situation in BC and beyond closed some highways and made others difficult to navigate through the smoke. Firefighters have done an amazing job though, and we appreciate and commend all of them and their support crews keeping us safe and minimizing the damage.

X marks the ballot

The Canadian federal election is officially set for September 20th. There will be four days of advanced polling, September 10th through 13th, and you can also vote by mail if you don’t wait too long. You can apply online for a ballot kit, or pick one up at any Elections Canada office, before September 14th. Your ballot must be received by September 20th.

Crossing the border

The Canadian border is open, with restrictions, and Canadians may be allowed into the United States later in September. Of course, all rules are subject to change as the situation changes. Commercial carriers like us have seen a few inconveniences, but are still making our way back and forth with your goods and supplies.

Stay safe out there!
